The Traffic Monitoring Subsystem is a part of the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) developed by VoiceLink. Its goals are:
- Capturing integrated traffic flow data from vehicle detectors;
- Collecting, storing and processing data from vehicle detectors installed on a specific road or within the road network, determining the total number of vehicles that traveled on each lane in the specified time frame, their preliminary breakdown into categories, average traffic speed on each lane in the specified time frame and average occupancy of areas designated by the user on each lane in the specified time frame;
- Detecting and reporting emergency events;
- Processing actual and historical traffic flow data, compiling reports and suggesting changes to the control scenarios.
The subsystem supports both radar vehicle detectors and video detectors, including photo and video recording devices capable of monitoring traffic flows. All vehicle detectors that use standard data exchange protocols are supported by the subsystem.
The ATMS Traffic Monitoring Subsystem developed by VoiceLink may also be coupled with the Video Detection and Video Analytics Subsystem in order to increase the accuracy of detecting emergency events.
